Teacher’s experiences
As our website is developed, this section will include tips from teachers who have used The New Little Book in the classroom. It will also have a section available only to school districts that have purchased enough copies to give one to each student taking the OGT.
Video
We are scripting a short video about teaching for the social studies OGT.
Warning! The New Little Book is NOT a textbook or review guide to help students cram before the test! It is designed for use as a teaching tool.
- There are no questions at the end of each section. Teachers and students must focus on the benchmarks to prepare for the social studies portion of the OGT.
- The benchmarks do not require students to memorize isolated facts and definitions. They do require students to think historically, to analyze and make connections between events and ideas.
- Teachers and tutors must model how to think historically, how to analyze and make connections.
- Start by reading the “How to Use” section on pages 3 and 4 carefully.
Teaching students to think historically, also called historical thinking, helps students develop critical thinking skills needed to pass the OGT. Teaching students to refer to the book often, highlight important points, and review the highlighted material just before the test develops good study skills for every class. Check back later to watch the teaching video here.
Low pricing for large orders means you can afford to buy copies for all OGT students!
More to come
· An audio version is planned to help students who are print-impaired and those who are audio learners.
· Are you interested in a Braille version? We have one request, but cost concerns have delayed this project.
